History
The first commercially available television to use LED lighting was the Sony Qualia, which was an LED-Backlit model first produced in 2005. Sony didn’t call it an LED TV though, that term was first used by Samsung as recently as on their 2009 Luxia range, which had an Edge-Lit LED screen.
Sony had continued to use RGB LED Backlighting on their larger Bravia models and Samsung had used LED-Backlighting since 2007.
Sharp and Toshiba have introduced LED-Backlit Televisions in 2009 and other manufacturers will soon follow, the first being LG, which will be available shortly.
