Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What does LED mean?
LED means Light Emitting Diode, a small electronic component, like a tiny light bulb.

How does an LED work?
When a very weak electric current is passed through the electronic components in the LED, it glows like a light bulb.

What are the advantages of LEDs over other forms of lighting?
LEDs respond very quickly, which is why they are great for car brake lights!  They also use much less power than older technologies, so they are cheaper to run and more environmentally friendly.  They are also smaller and lighter and cheaper to manufacture.

Is an LED TV better than a Plasma TV or an LCD TV?
Yes, there are advantages in both cases, although strictly speaking the LED TVs currently available are all LCD TVs either back lit or side lit by LEDs.  LED TVs use less power, have brighter screens, fuller colours, better black and white rendition and allow manufacturers to make the televisions much thinner than before.
